A series about integrity – being what you present, and even clearer underneath. Cracked open, something coherent but more vivid spills out. This is the 2nd painting in my series called Reversed Cowgirls.
Crafted on cotton canvas in layers of acrylic paint. The woman herself is built up in grayscale realism, when split open a vivid blue color reveals itself – all against a deep purple background.
The shape of the object was inspired by a classical marble bust, and somewhere I saw face split revealing a beautiful inner and I thought – this together could make an interesting showcase of the content of your inside plus/vs what you show on your outside. When these aspects cohere – integrity happens, right?
The piece is made to be seen from both sides. At it’s first exhibition it was presented slowly rotating, letting viewers meet it from shifting angles.
